A new comedy boom began, thanks in part to Netflix throwing unprecedented amounts of cash toward producing hundreds of new stand-up specials every year. Sketch-comedy shows like Key & Peele, Kroll Show, and Inside Amy Schumer enjoyed successful runs and consistently released sketches that went viral online. Beloved comedy series like 30 Rock, The Office, and Community ended their runs, making way for new favorites like Nathan for You, Veep, Review, Barry, Atlanta, BoJack Horseman, and more. The world of late-night television went through a handful of changes, from Stephen Colbert’s move from right-wing parody on Comedy Central to David Letterman’s successor on CBS to the debuts of Conan O’Brien on TBS, Seth Meyers on Late Night, James Corden on The Late Late Show, Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, and a handful of hosts coming and going on Comedy Central, like Jon Stewart, Trevor Noah, Larry Wilmore, and Jordan Klepper.
