It's always worth to use other divisions than infantry, because each divisions have a 'soft attack' rate and an 'hard attack' rate. But I never wasted resources to build them. It's what the SS-Divisions are made of in the late game (historically). Mechanized divisions are motorized with better armor. Plus, Motorized divisions are supposed to replace cav, as it's even faster, and more able to fight on the frontline. You tanks can get easily destroyed without one or two motorized batallions in their divisions. Motorized is vital for all the Blitzkrieg doctrine, and you always need motorized batallions for your tank divisions as they kind of 'cover' the tanks. For example, if you play Japan against China, you can easily encircle some divisions into pockets using cavalry supported by two or three infantry divisions, as cav (cavalry) is faster than infatry, but less able to fight directly against a full strenght opponent.
What I reccomend is having an Artillery, Recon and Engineers company for your divisions.Ĭavalry divisions are useful, but only for encirclement and against poor countries. It gives huge advantages in combat, but you don't need to use ALL the support companies slots. The support companies are worth, really worth and vital.
